Monday, November 27, 2017 3:39:26 EST PM Eric Mearow is not contesting conditions the Crown wants placed on his release from jail. He was one of three men to plead guilty to manslaughter in July 2016 in the January 2011 death of Wesley Hallam. Mearow was due to be released from jail on Tuesday. But he'll be held at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre until Dec. 5 when his matter returns before Justice of the Peace Philip Stanghetta. On Monday, assistant Crown attorney David Kirk told Stanghetta he has concerns with the address where Mearow wants to reside when he's released. “We cannot fashion the release today,” said Kirk. Under section 810 of the Criminal Code, a court can order supervision of a high-risk offender who poses a threat to the public after completion of their sentence. Mearow wants to be represented by Ariel Herscovitch, his legal counsel from 2016. Kirk, speaking on behalf of Crown counsel Julie Lefebvre who deals with high-risk offenders, outlined several reasons why conditions are being sought on Mearow's release. Witnesses are “very fearful” of Mearow when he finishes his incarceration. His criminal record, dating back to 1999, includes assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. Kirk also noted Mearow has been involved in “many disciplinary problems and misconducts” when behind bars. Stanghetta ordered Mearow not to communicate with about a dozen people before his next court appearance. Those persons include Dylan Jocko and Ronald Mitchell, who also pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Hallam's death, and the victim's mother, Sandra, and sister, Shannon. Mearow told Stanghetta he had a place to stay until police visited the residence on Monday.

Parliament Hill (QMI file photo) National housing strategy unveiled by feds Thursday, November 23, 2017 2:53:43 EST PM The federal government’s 10-year, $40 billion National Housing Strategy is designed to reduce homelessness and improve the availability of quality housing for Canadians. Sault MP Terry Sheehan said in a press release he believes the housing strategy will improve lives of area residents. “All Canadians need and deserve housing that is safe and affordable. A home makes Canadians feel more secure, making it easier to raise healthy children, pursue an education, and gain employment,” he said. “In Sault Ste. Marie this housing strategy will change lives. I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits in our local communities.” The first-ever national housing strategy will be jointly funded over the next decade by the federal, provincial and territorial governments to reduce the homelessness in Canada. Statistics show that across Canada, 1.7 million Canadians are in core housing need. The goal of the strategy is to reduce chronic homelessness by 50 percent. It’s also to remove more than 530,000 households from housing need and create four times as many new housing units as built under federal programs from 2005 to 2015. The program will also repair three times as many existing housing units as repaired over the past 10 years and protect an additional 385,000 households from losing an affordable place to live. Legislation will be introduced in the next year to ensure the federal government maintains the national housing strategy and reports to Parliament on housing targets and incomes. A Canada housing benefit will be launched in 2020 with $4 billion to respond to local housing needs and priorities. The strategy was developed through consultation with Canadians from all walks of life, Sheehan said.

You can determine the efficiency of your solar panels by their density. High density panels cost more; however, they also produce a great deal more power. For this reason, the added expense is justified. Carefully evaluate the density and efficiency of all options before making a purchase.

You ought to have a backup resource should your solar panel system fail to work properly. Remaining connected to the main power grid is your best option but you could invest in a generator. If you choose to utilize a generator, make sure to test it on a regular basis and don't hesitate to have more generators in the home.

Try to stay away from high pressure salespeople when scouting solar energy. Do your research before even setting foot in the store. Don't fall victim to pushy sales tactics, as this could cost you both time and money.

Solar photovolatic panels can decrease your heating bill, as can solar water heating. Remember that a photo-voltaic solar panel needs a minimum of five hours of good sunshine every day to work its best. Solar water heating can reduce your bill if you have a swimming pool that is heated.

Stay away from salespeople in the solar energy business that try to push you into a sale. It's common to find these salespeople in the solar energy industry. You should make sure that they know that you'll think over the deal and won't make a decision on the spot. If they say they have a great deal right now, then it really should still be a good deal next week too. Making a decision under pressure can really hurt you in the long run.

If you reside in the southwest of the US, you need solar power. This region receives the most sun all year round, so using solar power can result in great financial benefits. If you haven't checked costs, do that immediately.

Assess how much shade is around your home when considering whether solar power is right for you. You may not want to go with solar energy if there is shade over your home often. Shade reduces power output, making panel efficiency sag.

Change the panels' angle with the change of seasons. The amount and angle of sunlight changes with each season. When you change these angles, you can capture more energy and save more on your investment.

The installation of your solar panels is just like any home improvement project. Do some background research on different vendors and contractors, ask for references and compare prices. Read the contract carefully or have your attorney read through the contract before you sign it to ensure you are getting what you paid for.

If solar panels are unaffordable, or you are not interested in committing long-term, you might think about leasing your solar energy system. Leasing means paying a much smaller initial cost, which should allow you to start saving within a few months.

If you don't want to install a complete solar power system in your home, start with a solar water heating option. A water heater uses about third of your home's energy total. While these costs may be lower upfront than the full power ones, solar water heaters can save you money sooner.

They are helpful, but only if they're used. The benefits you'll receive from the advice above is sure to result in a great solar energy system at a reasonable price. Switch today using this article as your jumping off point.
